   Univention Configuration Registry variable
   UCR variable
A Univention Configuration Registry (UCR) variable is a named setting
that stores system configuration in a central registry.
Instead of editing configuration files directly,
you use UCR variables to manage local system configuration.
When you change a UCR variable,
the system automatically regenerates all configuration files that depend on it.

For more information about UCR variables,
      see :ref:`computers-administration-of-local-system-configuration-with-univention-configuration-registry`
in the *Univention Configuration Registry* section.

   Univention Directory Manager
   UDM
Univention Directory Manager (UDM) is the abstraction layer
between the domain database and the administrator.
It's responsible for domain management in Nubus for UCS,
covering identities, devices, and services across the domain.

UDM provides data aggregation, data consistency, input validation,
and process logic on top of the LDAP directory.
Administrators can use UDM through the web interface in the *Management UI*,
the command line (:command:`univention-directory-manager` or :command:`udm`),
      or the HTTP REST API.

.. TODO: Replace the reference after UDM conctent is available. See univention/dev/ucs#2592.

      For more information,
      see :ref:`component-domain-management`
      in :cite:t:`ucs-architecture`.
